Breaking Ground: A Major Step Forward for the Cornwall Main Street Hotel Project

After more than two years of hard work, planning, and collaboration, I’m proud to announce that the Cornwall Main Street Hotel project is officially breaking ground. This is a big win—not just for our downtown, but for the future of Cornwall.

When I first stepped into the role of Town Supervisor, I made a commitment to focus on smart, forward-thinking economic development. We needed to do more than just talk about revitalizing Main Street—we needed a bold, anchor project that would bring people in, energize local business, and signal that Cornwall is ready to grow in a way that respects our values and small-town charm.

The Main Street Hotel has always been that project.

Over the past two years, we’ve worked closely with local stakeholders, developers, and leaders at the state level to make this vision a reality. Through that effort, we’ve been able to secure nearly $2 million in state grants, a major investment that reflects real confidence in Cornwall’s potential. These funds helped clear the way for a project that had been stalled for years—and now, with shovels hitting the ground, we’re seeing the first real signs of progress.

But getting the hotel built was only part of the plan.

I also introduced and led the creation of a local hotel occupancy tax—a smart policy that ensures this project doesn’t just bring activity to Main Street, but generates ongoing revenue for the Town. These funds can be reinvested right back into our community—supporting public services, maintaining infrastructure, enhancing our parks, and keeping Cornwall a great place to live for everyone.

This hotel will be a cornerstone of our local economy. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s a destination in itself, and a gateway for the thousands of visitors who come to our area each year. Whether they’re:

  • Exploring Storm King Art Center,

  • Hiking the scenic trails of Black Rock Forest, Storm King Mountain, or Hudson Highlands State Park,

  • Visiting loved ones at West Point Military Academy,

  • Or attending weddings and special events hosted in Cornwall—

…this hotel offers a modern, welcoming place to stay—right in the heart of town.

And with its prime location on Main Street, the hotel will bring increased foot traffic to our small businesses, restaurants, cafes, and cultural spots. It’s the kind of development that strengthens our tax base while enhancing the unique character of our community.

We’ve said for years that Cornwall has the potential to be both a peaceful hometown and a vibrant destination. This hotel project is proof that we can have both—if we lead with vision, put in the work, and stay focused on what matters most.

I want to thank everyone who supported this effort—from our partners at the state level, to our local business owners, to the residents who spoke up and shared their ideas. This is your win as much as mine.

Let’s keep building.
