Josh Wojehowski
Josh Wojehowski is a lifelong Cornwall resident, a proud graduate of Cornwall Central High School (Class of ’99), and a dedicated public servant who’s spent his career bridging big-picture policy with local, hands-on leadership.
After high school, Josh attended the Culinary Institute of America and graduated in 2001. He moved to New York City just before 9/11 and began working with top-tier caterers. That pivotal moment in history inspired a shift—Josh entered public service, becoming a culinary instructor and program manager for NYC’s Human Resources Administration, helping New Yorkers on public assistance learn marketable skills and build paths toward self-sufficiency.
Before the Title, There Was the Vision
In this video, recorded before his time as Town Supervisor, Josh Wojehowski shares his deep roots in Cornwall, his experience working for the New York City Council, and the values that shaped his leadership. From growing up in this close-knit community to envisioning a more vibrant, sustainable future for all who call it home, this is a look at the man behind the mission—long before the office, the budgets, or the big wins.
While working full-time, Josh returned to school and earned a BA in History from Pace University. His passion for community development led him to City Hall, where he served as legislative and budget director for NYC Council Member Thomas White Jr. There, he helped shape the City Council’s economic development agenda—supporting job creation across all five boroughs, increasing oversight of development projects, reforming subsidy programs, and tackling the foreclosure crisis. He also worked with the Council’s Budget Negotiating Team, helping deliver four balanced budgets—including during the 2008 financial crisis—while ensuring vital services remained protected.
Josh later joined the YMCA of Greater New York as Director of Public Affairs, where he secured millions in public funding for after-school programs and capital improvements. He oversaw the organization’s grant portfolio, ensuring over $30 million in annual funding reached communities across the city.
After the birth of their first child, Josh and his wife Heather decided to return home to Cornwall to raise their family and invest in the town’s future. In 2013, they opened Fresh Café & Catering on Main Street—a community hub that created local jobs, and embodied Josh’s belief that Main Street could thrive again.
His passion for revitalization led him to join the Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, serve on the Town’s Economic Development Advisory Committee, and help shape the Cornwall Rising proposal—a plan to reimagine Main Street as a more vibrant, walkable, and business-friendly destination. With support from State Senator James Skoufis, this work secured early capital investment for downtown redevelopment.
In 2018, Josh and Heather sold the café to a family of first-time small business owners, continuing their commitment to community opportunity. That same spirit of service led Josh to win a seat on the Cornwall Town Council in 2019. Just two years later—during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—he ran for Town Supervisor, successfully challenging a long-term incumbent to bring much-needed change to Cornwall.
Josh took office on January 1, 2022, and was re-elected in 2023. As Supervisor, he’s focused on revitalizing Main Street, driving smart economic development, improving emergency services, protecting natural resources, keeping taxes low, and making local government more transparent and responsive. His leadership has already brought major progress—from infrastructure upgrades and sustainability initiatives to new partnerships and state funding wins.
Today, Josh lives in the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson with Heather and their two children. He brings a rare combination of government, nonprofit, and small business experience to the role—along with deep roots, clear vision, and a relentless drive to make every day in office count for the people of Cornwall.
