Planning for the Future: Cornwall’s Comprehensive Development Plan Is Underway
Cornwall is growing—and how we shape that growth today will determine the kind of community we become tomorrow.
That’s why, over the next six months, we’re embarking on the development of a new Comprehensive Development Plan—a strategic roadmap that will guide how our town evolves over the next decade and beyond. From zoning and housing to transportation, open space, infrastructure, and economic development, this plan is about ensuring smart, sustainable growth that reflects our community’s values.
Comprehensive plans are common in towns and cities across the country, and for good reason. They provide a framework for:
Preserving what makes a community special
Addressing challenges like affordability, traffic, and infrastructure
Encouraging responsible development
Attracting new businesses and investment
Protecting natural resources and quality of life
Most importantly, a comprehensive plan allows a community to take control of its own future—rather than react to it.
Supervisor Josh Wojehowski believes this isn’t something that should be decided behind closed doors. That’s why Cornwall’s plan is being shaped through an open, inclusive process that puts the voice of the community front and center.
Here’s how that’s happening:
A local advisory committee has been formed to help guide the process
All committee meetings are open to the public with feedback and questions welcomed from residents
Community surveys are being distributed—giving residents of all backgrounds a chance to weigh in
And for those who can’t attend public feedback sessions in person, those meetings are being live-streamed for transparency and accessibility
“This isn’t just a plan for government buildings and policy documents,” Josh said. “It’s a plan for the people who live here, raise families here, run businesses here, and care about Cornwall’s future. That means your voice needs to be part of it.”
By involving the community at every step, Josh is working to ensure the final plan is thoughtful, forward-looking, and grounded in the values that make Cornwall such a special place to call home.
